For the past two years the Taos Art Council has organized a banner art contest for Taos’ resident artists. The contest results in selected works displayed publicly from April to November as a way to get the artwork and names of our art community out to the general Taos and visiting public. Locals and visitors will be guided through downtown by the banners as they travel the main traffic corridor in Taos on Paseo del Pueblo. The 66 ‘Taos Is Art’ banners brighten and give great appeal to the roadway, especially in Spring time as we are waiting for our colorful tree foliage and flowers to return! The banners just went up last week, and they look amazing.
This year, a grant to Taos Arts Council on behalf of SecoLive financially supported this worthy tourism effort. The artworks that were selected for reproduction were printed in full color banners and are now in display along the light poles in the Town of Taos.
On May 3rd from 5-7pm TAC will host a reception for artists and public at Taos Town Hall on Camino de la Placita featuring poster sized reproductions of the selected images on display for a closer look. We hope to see you there to celebrate art and artists in Taos.
